However, if a player performs superbly throughout the series and plays an instrumental role in making his team win it, he is awarded with the Player of the Series award and undoubtedly, winning it is certainly a big achievement for any player.

5. Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka):

The former Sri Lankan cricketer who also served as the skipper of the team represented his country in all the three formats and he was also the part of the Sri Lankan team which won the 1996 World Cup. The 52-yr player was known for his explosive batting style and he is the third batter in the history of cricket who is also called Master Blaster, the other two being Sachin Tendulkar and Sir Viv Richards. Sanath Jayasuriya played cricket for Sri Lanka from 1989 to 2011 and during this period, he played 176 series (586 matches in all formats) and won 13 Player of the Series awards (2 in test matches & 11 in ODIs).

The former South African player is considered as one of the greatest cricketers of all times and he has immensely contributed towards development of the South African cricket. One of the finest all-rounders of his times, the South African legend made his international debut in the year 1995 and went on to play cricket till 2014. In his cricketing career, Jacques Kallis played 148 series (519 matches across all formats) and won 15 Player of the Series awards (9 test matches & 6 ODIs).

3. Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh):

The Bangladeshi cricketer who is currently the skipper of test team is touted as the greatest Bangladeshi cricketer of all times because of his wonderful records. He made his debut in the year 2006 and since then he has played 138 series (378 matches across all the formats) and won 16 Player of the Series awards (5 test matches, 7 ODIs and 4 T20Is).

2. Virat Kohli (India):

The former Indian cricket team skipper is touted as one of the greatest of all times because of his superb performances with the bat. Virat has broken many records and made many new records as well and he was seen as the most worthy and capable candidate for breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries. However, the cricketer is going through a lean phase and hasn’t scored a century for more than 2 years in any format. Though he may have been experiencing a rough time in his career, he stands at the second spot in the list of players who have won the most number of the Player of the Series awards. Virat made his debut in the year 2008 and till date, he has played 139 series (458 matches across all the formats) and won 19 Player of the Series awards (3 in test matches, 9 in ODIs and 7 in T20Is).

The legendary former Indian cricketer is considered to be no less than the God of cricket in India and he enjoys a huge fan following all over the world. Sachin Tendulkar is certainly one of the greatest of all times and there was a time when the victory or defeat of the Indian cricket team depended on how Sachin used to perform in that match. The iconic player has been bestowed with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award by the Government of India in 2013 and with this, he became the youngest recipient of the world and also the first sportsperson who got this award.

In his 24 years of career, Sachin has contributed immensely towards growth of the Indian cricket and he was also a member of the 2011 World Cup winning team. Sachin made his debut in the year 1989 and served the Indian cricket till 2013; he has played 183 series (664 matches across all the formats) and has won 20 Player of the Series awards (5 in test matches and 15 in ODIs).

In this list, only Virat Kohli and Shakib Al Hasan are playing in the present times so in coming years we may see any one of them toppling Sachin Tendulkar from the first position.
