5 Cricketers Who Did Not Get The Support Of Both MS Dhoni & Virat Kohli

The Indian cricket system has become so strong that there is no dearth of talented players in the present times, in fact the selectors have to deal with the problem of plenty whenever they have to select a team for a tournament or series.

Every cricketer dreams to play for the country and their talent plays an important role in getting them a place in the team but it is also true that the captain’s backing or support is also important if a player has to play for the country for a long period.

There have been times when we have seen that good players have lost their form but they are not ousted from the team because the captain supports them and then there are some players who have been dropped just after a couple of poor outings because the captain didn’t back them.

Here in this article, we will talk about few Indian players who didn’t get the support of both MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli due to their performances or other reasons:

1. Stuart Binny:

Stuart Binny is former Indian cricketer whose father Roger Binny was also a former Indian test player.  Stuart Binny has represented the country in all the three formats and initially he was touted as the all-rounder that India needed but he didn’t get enough and consistent chances due to variations needed in team combinations. Stuart Binny also didn’t perform as per the expectations whenever he got the opportunities because of which he played only 6 test matches, 14 ODIs and 3 T20Is for the country.

2. Manish Pandey:

The Karnataka batter made headlines after he became the first Indian to smash a century in the history of the IPL; he scored a ton in the IPL 2009. Manish Pandey got the chance to make his debut at international level in 2015 and he performed well but there was huge competition and he failed in overcoming that. It is also being said that Manish Pandey was not able to evolve himself as per the changes that came in the game with time because of which he was left behind. He didn’t get the chance to represent the country in the longest format of the game but he played 29 ODIs and 39 T20Is for the country.

3. Varun Aaron:

The former Indian cricketer from Jamshedpur was able to get selected in the national team in 2011 on the basis of his solid performances in the domestic level but injuries played a big role in his downfall. Varun Aaron also had a problem in cementing his place in the Indian team because Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were performing pretty well. Varun has represented the country in 9 test matches and the same number of ODIs as well.

4. Axar Patel:

Axar Patel is facing problems in getting selected in the Indian team because he is getting huge competition from Ravindra Jadeja and if this is not enough, Krunal Pandya is also posing a challenge for him. Since all three of them are almost the same dimensional bowlers, the one who is handier with bat and has more international experience is preferred by selectors. However, many former cricketers have spoken in support of Axar Patel and asked the selectors to keep him in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

5. Amit Mishra:

Amit Mishra made his debut at a time when Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh were also playing because of which he used to chance only when either of these two was injured or not available. Some experts feel that though Mishra is a good bowler, he lacks variations in his bowling. However, he has earned a pretty good name for himself as he has played 22 test matches, 36 ODIs and 8 T20Is for the country and he is also the fourth highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL.

A captain supports a player only if he fits into the profile that he wants so the skippers can’t be blamed much in this regard and there is no denying the fact that destiny also plays a big role in a person’s life. Agree?
