This may be a hot take: I loved Little Women by Louisa May Alcott when I read it as a kid, but watching the 2019 movie adaptation as an adult was an absolutely magical experience. It was the first time I truly understood why Jo and Laurie didn't end up together.

Typically, the book is better than the adaptation. My personal theory is that it's because a book allows you to get inside the main character's head in a way a TV show or movie never could. Sometimes, however, the premise of a book is better than its execution, and the onscreen adaptation does a much better job of telling the story.

For example, after Freeform canceled The Nine Lives of Chloe King, I tried to read the book series by Celia Thomson, but IMO, it paled in comparison.

And The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is incredible, but nothing compares to seeing Katniss's "Girl on Fire" dress on a giant screen.
