Sarfaraz Khan got his test cap from the legendary former Indian spinner Anil Kumble and as soon as Sarfaraz got the cap, he ran towards his father Naushad Khan and his (Sarfaraz’s) wife who were standing outside the boundary rope. He showed his cap to his father who kissed the badge and hugged his son with teary eyes.

Sarfaraz Khan played pretty well on his debut as he scored 62 runs of 66 balls and his innings included 9 fours and a six. His blistering knock came to an end after he got run-out by Mark Wood but still he had justified his selection and earned the praise of not just Indian fans but of opposition as well.

After the first day’s game got over, Sarfaraz Khan addressed mediapersons and said that he was not thinking about runs or performance as he was happy representing his country in front of his father. Sarfaraz stated that his father was not ready to come to the ground but he came after some people insisted him as he has worked so hard for this day only. Sarfaraz said that both his father and his wife were very emotional when he received the test cap and today he (Sarfaraz) felt that some pressure was off his shoulder as he didn’t waste the hard work of his father.

Sarfaraz said that he really liked coming to the stadium for the first time and getting the test cap in front of his father as he was just six years old when his father started his cricket training and it was his (Sarfaraz’s) dream to play for the country in front of his father. Sarfaraz said that his father wanted to play for the country but that didn’t happen due to some reasons but he worked very hard with Sarfaraz and now he is doing the same with the younger son and Sarfaraz called it the proudest moment of his life.

Sarfaraz said that he was a little nervous when he went to bat for the first few balls but he has practiced and trained so hard that in the end everything went well. He also revealed that during the lunch time, he requested Ravindra Jadeja to keep talking to him as he liked talking while playing and Jadeja kept talking and supporting him during his innings. The youngster said that Jadeja kept telling him to spend some time in the middle as newcomers tend to get nervous and think a lot as well when they are batting for the first time.

When he was asked about his mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja because of which he got run-out, Sarfaraz said that it is a part of the game as miscommunication takes place in the game of cricket.

As far as the match is concerned, India has posted a total of 445 runs on the scoreboard with the help of brilliant knocks of Rohit Sharma (131 runs) and Ravindra Jadeja (112 runs) but the visitors have also responded well with 207/2 in their first innings by the end of the day 2. Ben Duckett (133 runs not out) and Joe Root (9 runs not out) were at the crease when the 2nd day’s game got over.
